A local group that provides support to individuals and families affected by substance abuse has a new home. The Soul Garden Recovery Center has signed a lease that will allow programs to be offered at 801 West Fairchild Street in Danville starting this month.
Soul Garden Recovery Center was established as a non-profit corporation in Illinois in September of 2014. Its intent was to raise money for a community center that would serve as a visible haven and home for Soul Garden Recovery Center meetings, support groups and activities devoted to addiction recovery and family healing.
The founders of the Soul Garden Recovery Center were frustrated with the lack of support for people of diverse needs and the lack of safe, private places to hold meetings when they are most needed – on weekends and holidays. And so began the search and fundraising for a building to serve those needs. Along the way organizers also realized the lack of support for family members, including children, and expanded their efforts to be a family support center as well.
Soul Garden will be partially supported by an on-site social enterprise bakery called ‘Comfort and Joy Pies and Puffs’ which will make and sell baked goods and other items made by volunteers. There will also be a vegetable and fruit serenity garden which will provide a peaceful place for meditation and the opportunity to learn horticulture.
