Governor J.B. Pritzker announced new restrictions that will take effect statewide on Friday due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.
The new restrictions are part of the third phase of mitigation measures outlined by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Pritzker says the previous regional measurement is no longer possible as cases have increased statewide.
Under the new measures, museums, movie theatres and indoor recreation centers must be closed. Retail stores can operate at 25 percent capacity and grocery stores at 50 percent capacity. Personal care stores must limit capacity to 25 percent.
The state is also mandating that indoor sporting events be stopped under the new guidelines, although that does not apply to college and professional sports.
Meeting rooms and banquet centers will not be allowed to host gatherings under the new restrictions, and funerals will be limited to 10 people. The state also says anyone who can work from home should do so.
IDPH reported 12,601 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday afternoon and 97 more deaths. The state’s rolling positivity rate is 12.5 percent.
