The number of COVID-related deaths in Vermilion County has climbed by 12 with the addition of some deaths that occurred over the past 10 weeks. Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Douglas Toole announced the new figures Saturday afternoon (March 6, 2021).
‘’We are saddened to report another 12 COVID-related deaths (occurring over the past 10 weeks) – two women in their 90s, two women in their 80s, two women in their 70s, four men in their 80s, one man in his 70s, and a man in his 60s,’’ said Toole in a news release.
Toole reported 34 new cases in the county Saturday, and 83 released, bringing the county to a total of 8,533 positive cases since the pandemic began. The 34 new cases include one resident in their 80s, two in their 70s, five in their 60s, four in their 50s, one in their 40s, two in their 30s, five in their 20s, six teenagers, and eight grade-school-aged children.
There are currently five Vermilion County residents with COVID who are hospitalized (as of Saturday afternoon). And Toole adds there are currently 222 active COVID cases in the county. And the County Health Administrator added there have been 106,350 negative test results.
Toole also announced the County Health Department is working with some new partners…and plans to offer COVID vaccination clinics – including drive-through clinics – at some new locations soon.
