The Vermilion County Health Department reported late Wednesday that 71 new COVID-19 related cases have been diagnosed locally. County Health Administrator Douglas Toole says eight of the seventy-one new cases told the Health Department that they had already been fully vaccinated. One of the eight is among nine Vermilion County residents who are currently hospitalized with COVID. According to Toole, there are now 83 active cases of COVID in the county.
The Vermilion County Health Department is aware of 16 Delta Variant cases in the county – all of whom were unvaccinated.
Of the 71 new cases…three are county residents in their 80s, two are in their 70s, five in their 60s, seven in their 50s, thirteen in their 30s, sixteen in their 20s, twelve teens, three grade-school-aged children, one pre-school-aged child, and two infants. The county has had a total of 10,235 positive cases of COVID-19 diagnosed since the pandemic began. And 154 Vermilion County residents have died COVID-related deaths since the pandemic started early last year.
Toole also reported there was great response to the Health Department’s SHIELD ILLINOIS COVID testing Wednesday. Twenty-six people stopped by the Health Department to be tested, and Toole says those tests will now be offered there every Wednesday between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Testing is free and is a PCR test. Upcoming clinics are scheduled August 4th (Johnson and Johnson ONLY) from 10:00 a.m. until noon, August 11th (Moderna vaccinations) from 10:00 a.m. until noon, and September 8th (Moderna vaccinations from 10:00 a.m. until noon). No walk-ins will be allowed after 11:30 a.m. on those dates.
Local hospitals – O.S.F., Carle, and the VA – are also offering COVID vaccinations, along with pharmacies, Aunt Martha’s, and some private providers.
