The Danville Public Library will be hosting a Kai Con Extravaganza on August 6th and 7th. It is being described as a celebration of all things Karate Kid and Cobra Kai.
‘’It’s a fun and educational event inspired by the martial arts and pop culture entertainment such as the Karate Kid movies, Cobra Kai series on Netflix, and everybody’s favorite live-action, martial arts reptiles,’’ says Jennifer Hess, Executive Director of the Danville Public Library. ‘’We’ve taken elements from each of these franchises to inspire educational demonstrations, crafting, and games. It’s an event for the whole family,’’ added Hess.
Most events will be happening from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. both days (August 6th and 7th). Free activities for all ages with themed demonstrations and crafts, games, giveaways, costume contests, a classic car show, and food trucks will all be offered.
As part of the event, ‘The Karate Kid’ movies will be shown at the Fischer Theatre at 3 and 7 p.m. The general admission cost is a donation at the door. The Danville Public Library will also be showing live action movies featuring martial arts reptiles both days.
The Danville Library Foundation will be hosting its popular book sale on August 5th through 7th from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
The Kai Con Extravaganza is also the kick-off for Downtown Danville, Inc’s ‘Back to School Bash’ backpack giveaway on Friday, August 6th at 5:00 p.m. More information is available at danvillepubliclibary.org/kaicon or follow the Library on Facebook @Danville Public Library.
