A 175th birthday party will actually be getting started this weekend. On October 6th, Olive Branch Lodge No 38 will be celebrating the 175th anniversary of its charter. But festivities begin this Saturday morning, with a sunrise anniversary celebration and memorial observance, 6:30 AM at Springhill Cemetery. Current president Brian Pettice explains some of their history.
AUDIO: Members of this lodge over the years have played a big part in the history of the state, the city, and the nation. They’ve been mayors; one of our past masters was a close confidante and companion of Abraham Lincoln, two of our members were the first brothers ever to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor, for action in the Civil War.
Pettice says Saturday morning’s festivities will recognize lodge members who have passed, along with recognizing some very important people from the early history of Olive Branch Lodge No 38.
