The latest unemployment numbers show that the jobs situation took a small drop from July to August. In Vermilion County, the unemployment rate increased from 6.5 percent in July to 7.1 percent in August. Vermilion County was 8.9 percent in August of last year. The City of Danville’s jobless rate increased from eight percent flat to 8.8 percent. Danville was 11.6 percent in August of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
In Vermilion County, non-farm employment did increase by over 600 from August of last year to August of this year. The leisure-hospitality sector gained over 200 jobs compared to one year ago, while professional and business services also showed a gain of over 200. In the retail sales category, Vermilion County was down over 100 positions from August of last year to August of this year.
