The list of holiday activities to look forward to continues to grow, including what’s happening at Kennekuk County Park on Sunday, December 5th. That’s the day the Bunker Hill Historic Area “Holiday Open House” returns starting at 2 PM. As Conservation District Environmental Education Supervisor Lara Danzl reminds us, if you like getting nostalgic at Christmas time, this is the place.
AUDIO: People are going to be able to go inside some of the historic buildings; and have hot chocolate, apple cider, and some cookies. We’re also going to have antique radio shows playing. And in the print shop there will also be some kid kraft activities, where they can make and take a holiday card home with them.
At 5 PM on the fifth, all the Bunker Hill Historic Area lights will be lit, on until 8 PM when the park closes. And then those lights will be on every night at 5 PM for those passing through the park. But again, to actually go inside the historic buildings and live the past, Danzl says Sunday the 5th is the special day.
AUDIO: December 5th is like the kickoff event. It’s a celebration of having the lights out there. It gives people an opportunity to come inside and look at all the different decorations; and enjoy the historic buildings and look at all the furnishings we have inside of those.
The lights will be up 5 to 8 PM each night through January 2nd, so take a drive through all the evenings that you can.
The VCCD will be accepting donations at the BHHA area to help offset the cost of electricity or through our website, https://vccd.org/bunker-hill-historic-area-holiday-lights/.
