Vermilion County Health Department spokesperson Douglas Toole says when it comes to the decision Danville High School made last week concerning three spectators per participant for the rest of the month, well that’s a decision up to each individual school.
AUDIO: It’s really up to each school superintendent to deside which way they want to go with this, superintendent and principal. I’m sure these aren’t very easy decisions, as everyone wants to go out there and support the teams. But with the high transmission rate we’ve got, we certainly want to do what we can to keep everyone healthy and safe.
Meanwhile, with the Illinois House cancelling in person sessions this week, but saying in a statement that with cautious optimism they hope the latest COVID wave has peaked, Toole says cautious optimism is very popular right now.
AUDIO: We’re certainly hoping we’ve seen the peak of Omicron, and that it’s starting to move on. That would certainly be the model we’ve seen in other countries and other states. And we’ve hoping that’s consistent with Illinios.
Vermilion County’s total amount of fatalities due to COVID since the start of the pandemic is now above 255.
