This upcoming weekend in Danville will include not only Balloons Over Vermilion Friday and Saturday, but also Community Day in Lincoln Park, 2:30 to 4:30 on Sunday.
The City of Danville Human Relations Commission and the Martin Luther King, Jr Celebration Committee will be sponsoring their 28th Annual Community Day; open to the public with no admission fee.
The program will feature North Street Soul, a band from Vermilion County; along with Champaign gospel group Noah Brown and Family. And as Danville Human Relations Administrator Sandra Finch reminds us; plenty of food as well.
AUDIO: Well we’re going to have some good food. We’re going to have barbeque, and we’re going to have other summer additions like fried chicken, as well as hot dogs and hamburgers.
In case of rain, the entire Community Day program on Sunday will be moved to St. James United Methodist Church.
Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr stated during the Tuesday, July 5th City Council meeting that there will be increased police presence at Community Day, as a precaution, following the 4th of July Parade tragedy in Highland Park.
