After emerging from a Closed Session during Tuesday night’s meeting, and Danville City Council approved a three year agreement with Teamsters Local 26, Danville Mass Transit. The old agreement expired at the end of June, 2021. Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says the new agreement calls for a two percent raise for the contract’s first year (which just ended), a three percent raise for the second year, and a three percent raise for the final year.
AUDIO: It took us a little while. There were some details we had to work out in terms of shifts, such as whether or not the pay would change if we were open on Sundays and holidays (such as for the future casino). Other than that the final thing was just economics and pay; and we were able to get that resolved, thankfully.
The mayor mentioned that in light of the 4th of July tragedy in Highland Park, there will be some extra police presence during Community Day at Lincoln Park this Sunday, simply because it’s the right thing to do.
AUDIO: Well I think more than anything else it’s our responsibility to do everything we can to keep our people safe. We are not aware of any threats or anything like that. However, it’s really important for us to be sure that we take any kind of extra measures.
It was also mentioned during Tuesday’s meeting that former Danville Alderman Dale Brandenburg recently passed away.
AUDIO: Alderman Brandenburg was very strongly opinionated. He didn’t say much; but when he said something, you definitely heard it.
Visitation was scheduled for 11 to 1 Wednesday, July 6th at Kruger Funeral Home. Brandenburg served as a Danville alderman from August of 2002, to May of 2011.
