With the “Sports and Brews” heading into 4th of July Weekend a big success, Danville Community Relations Administrator Ashton Greer says plans for the FIRST FRIDAYS event in August are in the works. First, however, Greer said what happened last Friday, with all the Downtown Danville sporting events, was worth one more look.
AUDIO: It was so much fun. I think it was one of our best First Fridays events to date. I think that everybody that I witnessed and that I saw at the event was having a really good time. There was a wide variety of activities and a really huge crowd; I think it was just fun all around.
The FIRST FRIDAYS August event will be a Back-to-School Bash. Once again there will be live music, as the Summer Sounds concert series in Downtown Danville continues, but in the meantime Greer says they’ll be putting together “free back-to-school backpacks” for the first several hundred who attend.
AUDIO: We haven’t set a number yet. We’re still working with District 118 and First Student to collect school supplies. Once we have a handle on how many we have, then we’ll decide how many free backpacks full of supplies we can get out. We’ll probably also do a touch-a-truck activity; as well as some carnival games, and some other fun activities for families.
The FIRST FRIDAYS “Back-to-School Bash” in Downtown Danville will be Friday, August 5th; from 6 to 9 PM.
