Golfers participating in the 8th Annual American Legion State Golf Tournament in Danville this weekend will get quite a welcome. Opening ceremonies on Saturday morning at the Harrison Park Golf Course will feature a presentation of colors by the Danville American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard, along with other area Honor Guards. American Legion Riders will be present as the National Anthem is sung, and there will even be a fly-over.
The ceremony begins at 8 o’clock Saturday morning, August 6th (2022) at the Harrison Park Golf Course. The Illinois American Legion Golf Tournament is being played at that course plus the Turtle Run Golf Club in Danville.
‘’We are excited to bring this annual tournament to our city in honor of our veterans,’’ said Jeanie Cooke, Executive Director of the Danville Area Convention and Visitors’ Bureau. ‘’We look forward to hosting it for many years to come,’’ she added.
Proceeds from the tournament go to support Veteran charities.
This year’s event includes evening activities on Saturday night at Danville American Legion Post 210. The Legion will have dinner and drink options available outside which is open to the public. Live auction and music will be provided by the American Legion State Golf Tournament Committee.
The $130 entry fee includes Saturday and Sunday rounds of golf, cart fees, a golf towel, Saturday dinner, and prize money (in the form of Golf Shop credit). Entry is limited to 54 teams. Call the Danville Area Visitors’ Bureau at 800-383-4386 to register. Online registration is available at https://www.alstategolf.com. Or email ALStateGolf@gmail.com.
Organizers ask that at least one player in each foursome be an American Legion member in good standing, or members of the American Legion Riders, Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or active military. The format is a four-person scramble. Golfers will switch courses on day two with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
