Downtown Danville’s First Fridays event for the month of October is this Friday the 6th, with the “Spooky Glow 5K Run & Walk” taking off from Temple Plaza. Danville Community Relations Coordinator Rheanna Ollis, along with Erin Gregory, recently joined Tommy B on D102’s The Big Show to talk about the entire evening’s plans.
The 5K event is just part of what’s happening downtown between 5 and 8 PM. It will be family and Halloween themed, and costumes are welcome. As Erin Gregory reminded us, costumes for both those in the 5K and those just hanging around having fun are encouraged.
AUDIO: All the families; you know, costumes, as long as they are family friendly; are encouraged.
As Rheanna Ollis pointed out, this is a “next step” from the similar “5K Glow” event from one year ago.
AUDIO: Last year this was a big hit. It was the very first one, but now we are doing our SECOND Spooky Glow Run and Walk. Honestly, it’s so much fun, and we wanted to add a little of that family friendly spooky theme this year. You know; October.
The cost to sign up for the 5K is $15, but you can also come to Downtown Danville and just enjoy the entire atmosphere for free. There will be a live DJ playing everyone’s favorite spooky songs, food trucks, glow activities, and don’t forget to check out the glow jewelry.
To sign up for the 5K, you can do it on site, or ahead of time at FirstFridaysDanville.com. And if you’d like one of the $20 souvenir Spooky Glow Run and Walk T-shirts, your best bet is definitely to sign up ahead of time. Registration Friday evening is 5 to 6:30, and participants will take off at 7 PM. The course goes from Temple Plaza, over to Main Street, and then up Vermilion towards the trip through Spring Hill Cemetery, which will have plenty of seasonal lighting.
