This past Saturday afternoon (Aug 23rd), the RPC Early Childhood Education Program was not only celebrating Head Start’s 60th birthday, but celebrating the future as well. Danville’s Head Start is under the operation of the Champaign Regional Planning Commission. They are active at Head Start’s 1001 East Voorhees location, but Saturday’s celebration was at Head Start’s old 501 N. Kimball location in Danville. And RPC Early Childhood Education’s Shaconna George says the Kimball location will soon be active once again.
AUDIO: We are trying to get our kitchen operational here at Kimball. So once that’s fully running, and approved by the Health Department, and we get our DCFS license in; then we’ll make the transition to have children here as well.

Saturday’s Head Start birthday party celebration at 501 N. Kimball included area vendors, playtime for children, and plenty of music.
They are taking enrollments for expectant mothers, “Early Head Start” children six weeks to two years of age, and “Head Start” children three to five years of age. George reminded us of some of the things they’ll ask for.
AUDIO: You bring your last two pay stubs, or you bring your W-2s or your 1040s. If you are receiving any public assistance, you’ll be bringing proof from that. If you receive any SSI, or any unemployment, you bring those things in; and that would help the application process. Of course, proof of birth; so a birth certificate. And you would fill out an application with one of our family advocates, and we’ll get you placed on our wait list.
