Santa Claus is helping the Danville Salvation Army with its Christmas Kettle Campaign this year. Dressed in his red suit and flashing a smile, Santa has been manning a Salvation Army kettle in front of the County Market Store at the Village Mall..
Santa says area residents have been generous so far this holiday season. And he notes the money goes for a good cause – helping people through the Salvation Army..
Lt. John Woodard of the Salvation Army says the goal in the kettle campaign this year is $100-thousand dollars for the Danville area. He says the money is used for operations and resources throughout the year. And Woodard says the Salvation Army could always use more volunteers to man the kettle locations.
Meanwhile, the Salvation Army expects to distribute about 500 Christmas food baskets this year. The registration for those food baskets continues through December 1st. But registrations are only occurring on certain days at the Salvation Army Headquarters at 855 East Fairchild Street in Danville. Those days and times are:
- Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 until 3:30 p.m.
- Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 until 11:30 a.m.
No appointment is necessary. The Salvation Army is also teaming with the Marine Corp League this year for the Toys for Tots program.
