Danville’s Edison Elementary School will open on time next week, even though it might not look like it. Plywood still covers some of the windows where new ones will be installed. And Skip Truex, the District 118 Director of Buildings and Grounds, says it will be a few more weeks before some of the new windows are delivered. In the meantime, he says some room air-conditioners have been installed in some of the window slots and ‘’it is working out well,’’ according to Truex.
Workers have been busy this summer working on other improvements at Edison ranging from upgrading the electrical service to installing a new heating and air-conditioning system and steel doors.
Edison was built in 1929 and is located at Vermilion and Winter Streets. It is not the only building where work has been going on during the summer. Some of the other projects include painting and new carpeting in parts of other District 118 schools, and upgrades to locker rooms and the Clock Tower entrance at Danville High School. The Clock Tower entrance at DHS (along Jackson Street) is now the main entrance to the building. Previously most people entered the school at its circle drive.
