Although Vermilion County’s jobless rate fell last month, many local employers are still looking for help. Nearly seventy of them participated in a Career Expo on Friday (April 28, 2023) at the David S. Palmer Arena.
The event gave those seeking a job multiple opportunities to review what jobs are available.
Amaka Akuba (center) is a Human Resources Representative for Quaker Oats. She says the company offers a good pay and benefit package for new employees….

And depending on which department you are in that goes up on a yearly basis. …And then our benefits, we have things that help with you financially, emotionally, (and) physically. We want to make sure that we are investing in our employees that are working so hard. So we want to make sure that we are advocating for their life styles, whatever that may look like.’’}
There are also a number of salaried positions available at the Danville plant. Akuba described what is made there….
Audio Player{AUDIO: ‘’We have our Chewy Bars, this is really the hot commodity here. And we make all the Chewy for the whole United States, so that’s very near and dear to us in Danville. We also make cereal and then pancakes – so our Pearl Milling. And we have our Oats Berries, Captain Crunch, so just all your breakfast goodies. We make them here in Danville.’’}
Another place looking for help is Danville’s Carle at the Riverfront. Stacy Nicholson, Nursing Supervisor there, says there are multiple openings available….

Danville School District 118 also had representatives at Friday’s Career Expo. Kim Hoffman, Benefits Coordinator for the District, listed positions they hope to fill….

We also have the food service and the custodial departments that we’re also hiring for to get those fully staffed for the next school year as well. We’re looking for substitute teachers, substitute teaching assistants. Basically just everybody we need to hire for.’’}
