Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden has released the identity of the man killed in a Danville fire on Thursday. She says the victim is 75-year-old David R. Singleton who lived at the residence at 300 Park Street.
The Coroner added an autopsy was being conducted, and that the investigation into the tragedy is continuing. Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason told VermilionCountyFirst.com News that no foul play is suspected in the fire. Coroner McFadden says that in addition to her office the death is being investigated by the Danville Police and Fire Departments along with the Illinois State Fire Marshall.
There were five people living in the building which serves as a residence for Veterans. Since Thursday’s fire, someone placed some flowers and a small American flag at the scene of the tragedy.
Danville Firefighters responded quickly once the alarm sounded at 11:45 a.m. Thursday. They found heavy smoke rolling from the structure when they arrived. Firefighters found Singleton during a search of the residence, but it was too late to save him. Other occupants of the building were not hurt.
