Danville is going to participate in the National Park Service Passport Program. The city is an official Gateway City for the Abraham Lincoln Looking for Lincoln National Heritage Area.
The Danville Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and Vermilion County Museum have agreed to be part of the National Park Service Passport to Your National Parks Program.
Sue Richter, Director of the Vermilion County Museum, says nationwide nearly all Parks and Heritage areas in the National Park System participate in the passport program. ‘’So not only can you travel throughout the United States, if you so desire to get this passport stamped or to purchase the special little stamps they have for some of the specific parks – now you can travel just within the State of Illinois for the Lincoln Heritage Area and get your passport and collect all the little cancellation stamps from all the different sites,’’ says Richter.
Jeanie Cooke, Executive Director of the Danville Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, says cancellation stamps may be obtained at her office at 100 West Main Street, or the Vermilion County Museum at 116 North Gilbert. The cancellation stamps are free, but Passport books are also available at those locations for $9.95 each.
