Vermilion County Sheriff’s Police have recovered a body from inside a car that was found submerged this morning (Saturday) at Lake Vermilion. Sheriff Pat Hartshorn was on the scene and explained what happened.
‘’We had a female call 9-1-1 and said that a friend of hers had contacted her and said she had driven her car into Lake Vermilion, and could not get out of the car. When officers arrived they checked the lake and couldn’t see anything visually. We put Sheriff’s Department Divers into the water and located a car. When we brought the car out there was a single female in the car deceased,’’ said the Sherifff during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News on the scene.
The late model car was recovered from the water near a boat ramp at Lake Vermilion County Park. Sheriff Hartshorn says the victim was apparently able to call for help.
‘’It appears that she drove into the water and then called her friend – and reported that she had gone into the water.’’
When emergency personnel arrived on the scene it was too late to save the woman. Her name has not been released yet (as of late Saturday morning) by the Vermilion County Coroner. Chief Sheriff’s Investigator, Captain Michael Hartshorn, says there does not appear to be any signs of foul play at this time.
