Severe storms that blew through the area Tuesday and early today (Wednesday) caused few problems and little damage in Vermilion County. The Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency says some limbs which blew onto power lines caused some power outages on Danville’s north and west sides. EMA clocked some wind gusts of 50 miles per hour at its office and recorded six-tenths of an inch of rain. The office is located along Illinois route one south of Danville.
Ameren mobilized crews and continue the restoration efforts in some areas. Ameren says customers in Sparta, Belleville, Ottawa and LaSalle were most impacted, with at least 125 power poles down in those areas. There was also extensive tree damage in those areas affecting electrical service. Ameren sent more than 180 field and support personnel to assist in the restoration effort in LaSalle County, where several tornados caused some severe damage and one death.
Illinois State Police say heavy rain and strong winds may have been a factor in an injury accident which occurred along Interstate 74 in Champaign County early today (Wednesday). A 26-year-old Cleveland, Ohio man was taken to a hospital for treatment after the semi tractor trailer he was driving left the highway and then rolled. The impact caused the frozen goods in the trailer to spill out onto the highway…and for awhile west bound traffic had to be detoured around the crash site which was near Mahomet.
