A company that provides water to thousands of customers in East Central Illinois has been selected to receive a Source Water Protection Award. Aqua Illinois Water is being recognized for its efforts to protect the Lake Vermilion watershed.
The annual award recognizes organizations in Illinois that have developed and implemented exemplary source water protection programs.
Each year Aqua works with the local farming community to reduce the nitrate concentration that runs into Lake Vermilion. The water company also provides education on the impact nutrient runoff has on drinking water. And Aqua hosts an annual Lake Vermilion Cleanup Day, promoting and enhancing the natural beauty of the lake.
‘’It is an honor to be recognized by Illinois Section AWWA for our efforts here in Danville,’’ said Aqua Illinois Production Manager David Cronk. ‘’We are committed to this community,’’ added Cronk, ‘’and work hard to preserve and protect our natural water resources and also ensure that area residents can enjoy quality water.’’
