Danville City Council members have agreed to raise penalties for certain offenses regarding motor vehicles. But aldermen have decided to delay raising penalties for inoperable and abandoned vehicles.
The Council agreed during its regular meeting Tuesday night to raise the administrative fee for first time offenses from $300 to $500, and second and any subsequent offense from $500 to $750.
City Council members decided they wanted more time to discuss possibly raising those penalties for inoperable and abandoned vehicles. The higher administrative fees that were approved apply to such violations as fleeing or eluding police, violating the Illinois Controlled Substances Act, and committing acts of vandalism or criminal damage.
The higher administrative fees are in addition to any penalties imposed by other city ordinances or state law.
Also during their meeting, Danville City Council members approved a three year contract with Comcast. It will provide the city with a new dedicated fiber internet connection and fiber Ethernet services.
