Some area firefighters spent the night battling a blaze at an abandoned meat packing plant southeast of Danville. The fire was at a former meat packing plant, which is just outside the Danville city limits on Perrysville Road. The building has been vacant for decades.
Lynch Fire Lieutenant Tyler West says it was a long night for firefighters.
‘’It was a very long night,” said West. ”Our engine and truck is going to remain on scene for awhile while it just smolders. (It was) very unsafe to go inside and fight anything. It was an exterior attack and the center is still burning, and we’re just going to remain on scene and make sure it doesn’t spread anywhere.’’
Lynch volunteer firefighters were assisted by units from the Westville and Tilton fire departments. Kickapoo firefighters were also on standby. No injuries were reported as firefighters had to use an exterior attack.
