The Champaign County Coroner and Danville Police say an investigation is continuing into Tuesday’s fatal car-pedestrian accident along North Vermilion Street. Coroner Duane Northrup says 70-year-old George Bell of Danville died Tuesday night at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. The Coroner says an inquest into the death may be held later.
Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says the car involved was being operated by a 26-year-old Danville woman. She has not been charged. Director Thomason adds there were two young children in the car at the time. No one in the vehicle was hurt. The Director says the victim was apparently attempting to cross North Vermilion Street in an area other than a crosswalk.
