Illinois Assistant Republican Leader Chad Hays of Catlin says he is disappointed that lawmakers left for their spring vacation without having a serious discussion about the budget. On Thursday, House Democrats passed what Hays calls a ‘’showmanship kind of a bill’’, a stop gap $800-million dollar budget that Hays says everyone knew was not going anywhere.
‘’Had it been a serious bill it would not have been run on the day before the Senate left when they have no earthly way to take the bill up,’’ said Representative Hays. ‘’I think those of us who are very serious about having relief for our community colleges, and our universities, and our health care providers and human service organizations are committed to making sure that we do not leave here yet again this spring without a budget,’’ added Hays.
The House is now on a two week spring break. Lawmakers are scheduled to return to Springfield on April 24th with only 24 days remaining in the session.
