Some Danville Public School administrators say District 118 has attempted to address such areas as complaints about food and the school’s dress code. Those were just some of the areas discussed during a Vermilion County Youth Leadership Conference that was held at Danville Area Community College.
Dr. Alicia Geddis, Superintendent of Danville District 118 Schools, and Dr. Beth Yacobi, Assistant Superintendent for Higher Education in District 118, told students at their table there is a misconception that smaller schools are better than larger ones.
Ed Butler, another conference participant, was representing the local group Three Kings of Peace. That group volunteers at some local schools everyday in an attempt to help promote peace.
Butler applauded the decision to hold the conference. ‘’Different kids have different problems, different issues. And we all tried to come with a solution for these different students,’’ said Butler.
Butler says several students who attended the conference complained that enforcement of discipline rules has been inconsistent in such areas as cell phones, hoodies, and the dress code.
The forum was organized by the Danville High School Roots of Diversity Team.
