Balloons Over Vermilion is still three months away, but organizers are getting ready! A third grade class at Danville’s Northeast Elementary Magnet School was selected earlier to serve as official ambassador for the event.
Students in Jessica Alyea’s class were asked to help with marketing the event.
‘’We were asked to create a balloon, and design a balloon – come up with the balloon’s name and support it with some reason for why we chose that name,’’ said Alyea.
[Students in Jessica Alyea’s class work on the written part of the assignment, which was to explain why they chose the name that was selected for their balloon. The students were working on the assignment Tuesday afternoon.]
Eight-year-old Jmiya Brandon described his balloon…
‘’My balloon is like – it’s hearts in the sky – so like I’m going to draw like an evening, kind of an evening look…like orange and yellow. That’s what the heart represents in the middle.’’
Pat O’Shaughnessy, Co-Chairman of Balloons Over Vermilion, says the students’ artwork will be seen around the region.
‘’We’re going to put them all together on a poster. They may end up on tee-shirts as well. You can see the designs are wonderful, so it’s part of marketing Balloons Over Vermilion. It’s for the kids.’’
Balloons Over Vermilion will feature over 30 hot air balloons in mass ascensions, community flights, airport fly-ins and nightly balloon glows.
The event is July 14th and 15th at the Vermilion Regional Airport.
