The annual Career Connections Job Fair attracted a crowd at Danville Area Community College Wednesday. Area residents had a chance to meet with about fifty area employers who are looking for full and part-time help.
DACC President Stephen Nacco appreciates those who participated.
‘’I just love to see the engagement of the local businesses, and that they really have a commitment to helping our students and the community get jobs. They have openings and we’re now – as I’ve seen a couple of interviews going on. We have students here who have gone through our Career Services Center and are really raring to go.’’
Dr. Nacco noted the college offered some special help for those who are seeking jobs.
‘’Back on the 8th of April our Career Services Group did a workshop on things like how to dress, how to make a good first impression, how to look people in the eye, how to really be prepared for an interview and not just show up in pajama bottoms and think an employer will just fall all over you,’’ said Nacco.
And the Danville Area Community College President also discussed efforts to help Worksource clients who have special needs.
‘’They are people who are working at Worksource. They have – many of them – cognitive disabilities, but still can function in a regular workforce. I talked to two of them – maybe ten minutes ago – who kept saying the same thing – ‘we want to work, we want to work. Tell us when we can work.’ And we’re going to try to work out something where we can give them janitorial training and get them to our own college’s location at the mall and put them to work. People want to work – that’s great,’’ said the DACC President.
In addition to the Jobs Fair, Danville Area Community College also hosted University Transfer Day Wednesday. It gave students and others in the area an opportunity to meet with representatives of a dozen universities.
