Danville Police are probing a fatal shooting and attempting to determine whether it is linked to a traffic stop in which three men were taken into custody.
Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says officers were called to the 1600 block of East Fairchild Street at about 12:45 p.m. Thursday on reports a person had been shot. ‘’Our officers on arrival found evidence of a crime being committed and that the victim had been transported to the hospital by a personal vehicle,’’ said Thomason.
Director Thomason says officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Voorhees and Jackson shortly after the shooting. The vehicle failed to stop and was chased westbound towards Logan Avenue. ‘’The chase ended when the vehicle attempted to turn into an alleyway in the 600 block of Sheridan, struck a decorative rock, and the occupants fled on foot,’’ said Thomason. Three subjects were taken into custody in the immediate area and the driver is being held for Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding. Thomason adds the investigation continues into whether the chase had anything to do with the shooting.
The name of the 25-year-old man who died has not been released yet by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office (as of Thursday night). No one else was reported injured.
‘’The initial investigation has determined that the victim and other persons were involved in an argument that resulted from a minor traffic incident,’’ said Director Thomason. ‘’At some point in the disagreement the victim, a 25-year-old male, was shot. That individual, a Danville resident, was pronounced deceased at about 2:00 p.m.’’
