Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer says the fatal shooting of a young man last week a ‘’needless tragedy’’. And the Mayor says the death of 25-year-old Justin Jones was avoidable.
‘’You know it’s just an unfortunate and frustrating event because this was absolutely avoidable,’’ said the Mayor. ‘’I think as more details about this come out people are going to realize this was an absolutely needless tragedy that occurs because quite frankly in this country we have people with a mindset of solving issues with gunfire instead of with words of conflict resolution. And so it’s very frustrating – it’s very disappointing. But – on the other side – congratulations to the law enforcement that does such a tremendous job in this community,’’ added the Mayor.
Jones died after being shot in the 1600 block of East Fairchild Street. Coroner Jane McFadden says the preliminary autopsy results show he died from a single gunshot wound.
Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says police took three people into custody in the area of the 600 block of Sheridan Street shortly after the shooting. The investigation was continuing in an effort to determine whether those individuals had anything to do with the shooting.
