The Danville Area Planning and Zoning Commission again delayed action on a request to rezone some land along the 900 block of North Vermilion Street. The vote on whether to zone all property in the John T. Gulick estate at 914 North Vermilion to B-3 General Business was delayed late Thursday (May 4th) because not enough commissioners showed up for a quorum.
The vote had been delayed at an earlier meeting because one of the commissioners had to leave early. They will try again next Thursday.
Most of the land is already zoned for business. The petition is merely asking that a strip of land in the parking lot north of the former Gulick Illiana Medical Equipment site also be zoned for business. The petition does not state what is planned for the site.
Earlier some citizens raised objections about a proposal to move Stroud Liquors from South Gilbert to the Gulick building. The proposal included plans for a new (undisclosed) restaurant at Stroud’s site on South Gilbert. The objections led to a review to possibly change set-back requirements for liquor stores – but efforts to change the setback rules were defeated in an earlier city council vote.
