Public school districts in Danville, Westville and Rantoul could be some of the beneficiaries of a new school funding formula passed this week by the General Assembly.
State Senator Scott Bennett says under the proposed formula, Danville School District 118 could see more than $2-million dollars in new funding from the state. Westville Unit 2 Schools could see more than $550-thousand dollars in new state funding.
Senator Bennett says he voted in favor of the new school funding reform measure in order to help some local and area districts. ‘’Too many downstate school districts are left behind by the state in the old funding formula,’’ says Bennett. ‘’This new formula guarantees that the quality of a child’s education will not be based on their ZIP code.’’
Senate Bill 1 also contains a hold-harmless provision guaranteeing that no schools will receive less money from the state.
