A committee appointed earlier to consider the closing of a Danville fire station is recommending closing Station 4 on East Main Street. The Danville City Council had earlier approved a proposal to keep Station 3 on Griffin Street open only for administrative offices. But the committee is recommending instead that the station on East Main Street be closed instead of the Griffin Street station.
With discussions completed, Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says the public is invited to an Open House on Monday to review the station closure plan. The Open House will occur from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 5th, at the Bremer Center at Danville Area Community College.
‘’The station committee, appointed by Mayor Scott Eisenhauer and consisting of city officials and firefighters, have met often and reached a conclusion on which fire station should be closed,’’ said Director Thomason. ‘’The committee has met with the aldermen of the City and now wishes to allow public review and accept comments on that decision.’’
Thomason added that response times, equipment housing, renovation requirements and/or additional construction costs and contractual obligations were considered in the recommendation.
Monday’s event will open with a brief presentation followed by maps and other visual information for public review and a chance to ask questions. The City Council will be asked to approve the plan June 6th.
