Danville District 118 School Board members made progress last evening in their second meeting within a week discussing the dress code. But they still have not reached a final decision on whether any changes should be made in the Uniform Standard of Dress Policy.
Board members decided more information is needed from parents and the community – so they have decided to have parents fill-out a survey on the subject at registration time. The survey will ask what parents think about going to strict uniform dress consisting of polos and khakis or going back to the old dress policy which allowed students to wear what they want with restrictions.
Board member Lon Henderson agrees more information is needed, but thinks an interim dress code should be set this year. ‘’We need to address things like branding our school, and allowing kids to be able to wear something that has their school name on it – and not feel like they’re being penalized for that. I think we need to take a stand on the hoodie issue.’’ Henderson added he would not be in favor of staying with the existing policy. He thinks there are adjustments that should be made.
The board is expected to vote on an interim dress code at its June 21st meeting.
