The Illinois Broadcasters Association has named WDNL (D-102) Radio in Danville as its Station of the Year! The Silver Dome Award was presented Thursday evening during a banquet attended by about 300 Illinois radio and television broadcasters at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield. It is the third time in the past eight years that WDNL has won the award. WDAN – 1490 am Radio in Danville, a sister station to WDNL, also won the Station of the Year award in 2010.
In addition to WDNL being named Station of the Year (in the Small Market Radio category), the Neuhoff radio stations in Danville also brought home some other awards.
The coverage of WDAN (1490 AM) Radio of the National Junior College Division II Men’s National Basketball Tournament won a second place statewide award. And Eric Loy was presented a second place award for Best Sportscaster.
News Director Bill Pickett received a 1st place Silver Dome Award in the Light Feature category for his story about a grain bin at Alvin that was turned into a bed and breakfast. Pickett was also among the top three in Illinois in the Best News Reporter category. And his story about two Westville women rescuing a man from a burning home won a second place award for Best Spot News coverage.
WDNL’s Tom Barnes was presented a second place statewide award for Best Radio Personality. And Ken Kirby, the morning host on WRHK (K-Rock) Radio took third place in that category.
