Vermilion County has succeeded in its efforts to acquire the Danville Federal Courthouse building. And offices which are now located at the Vermilion County Courthouse Annex will be moving to the federal building within the next few months.
Vermilion County Board Chairman Mike Marron says he was notified by the General Services Administration that the United States Park Service had approved the county’s application.
‘’We expect the title to switch hands within 60 days,’’ said Marron. He says the county has engaged an architectural firm to work on space needs and accommodations. Bill Bucher, the County’s former interim Finance Director will be the project manager.
‘’We’re expecting this will be a long, drawn-out affair,’’ added Marron, who says the move will likely not be completed until this time next year.
Marron also notes that acquiring the Danville Federal Courthouse will also solve another problem – finding a new home for the Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency. That office will be relocating from its current site on Georgetown Road to the federal building.
‘’We want this move to go smoothly,’’ said Marron. He says there is going to be significant prep work so that when offices move from the Annex their services can be maintained.
And Marron adds the county has been in discussions with Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer regarding parking at the federal building. ‘’The City seems very willing to work with us,’’ said Marron, adding there are several options being considered.
Marron adds Vermilion County would like to thank Congressman John Shimkus and his staff for their diligent work in getting this done.
