Area Congressmen Rodney Davis and John Shimkus are safe after a gunman opened fire outside Washington, D.C. this morning.
Representative Davis was there to practice for an annual charity baseball game between Republicans and Democrats but was not hurt. Congressman Shimkus normally plays, but Jordan Haverly, a Shimkus staff member, says the congressman missed this morning’s practice and was not there when shots rang out.
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was wounded and is reported in stable condition. Two Capitol police officers were also wounded.
Democratic members of Congress were practicing for the charity baseball game at another location and were seen huddling in prayer after they received word of the shootings.
