Governor Bruce Rauner is calling lawmakers back to Springfield for a 10-day special session. The Governor’s announcement comes one day after House and Senate Republicans unveiled a compromise plan to end the budget impasse. The special session will begin Wednesday, June 21st and run through June 30th – the fiscal year deadline to get a new budget in place.
Governor Rauner says the compromise budget plan is one that he supports. ‘’It provides a true path to property tax reduction and it reforms the way our state operates to reduce wasteful spending,’’ said the Governor. ‘’It will fund our schools and human services, while spurring economic growth and job creation. It is a true compromise – and one I hope the majority of the General Assembly will accept,’’ added Governor Rauner.
‘’We have tough, urgent choices to make, and the legislature must be present to make them,’’ said the Governor. If the General Assembly approves a compromised balanced budget plan prior to June 30th, any days remaining in the special legislative session will be cancelled.
