Local resident, Ron Gore, presented a new idea for a new program last night to the city council that would help rehabilitate, educate, and provide job training to locals battling drug addiction. The SMART program, or Service Members Arranging Remedial Training, would take high school drop outs and people with drug addictions out of their hometown for 1 year to help institute change in their lives.
Gore is holding a public meeting Thursday night, June 22, at the Danville Public Library at 6pm for members of the community to come and voice concerns and learn more about his proposed program.
Alderman, RJ Davis, encouraged his fellow city council members to attend this meeting. “Danville needs this,” Davis stated. “I think Mr. Gore is onto something. Let’s rearrange our schedules and show up on Thursday to support the people who are trying to make a change. We need to address these problems. We need to deal with it. Danville is not going to stand for anymore of this mess. I would hope we would make this a priority and show up.”
