Vermilion County Board Chairman Mike Marron says he does not think the county will have to make additional budget cuts during the current fiscal year. But he adds the budget is still a work in progress as the county waits to see how the state’s new budget might impact the county.
Steve Fourez, chairman of the County Board’s Finance and Personnel Committee, told Board members last night that expenses are running right where they were expected to be half-way through the budget year. He says local revenues are continuing to come in as expected, but he still has concerns about state funding.
Marron says it looks like there will be no reduction in state income tax money. But he noted the State of Illinois is going to be collecting a 2-percent administrative fee from counties for their handling of sales tax revenues.
Marron (who is shown in photo) notes that of the $11-million dollars in expenditures in the county’s general fund, about seven-and-a-half million of it comes from the Illinois Department of Revenue.
Also during last night’s County Board meeting, Marron said the board plans to do something special – probably next month – to honor Hoopeston Police Chief Mark Drollinger who died last week. Drollinger’s funeral is being held today (Wednesday, July 12th, 2017).
And Marron announced the County is still waiting for the transfer of the title for the former U.S. District Court building in downtown Danville to the county. And he says a space needs analysis is now being conducted to determine the space needs for county offices that will relocate from the courthouse annex to the former federal court building. The move is expected to be done in stages, and is not expected to be completed until next summer.
