Police in Hoopeston are warning residents about a phone scam. Police say they have received reports that someone is calling residents claiming it is Ameren calling. The caller has been telling residents that their power will be shut off if a payment is not received within twenty minutes.
Police are warning residents that the calls are not coming from Ameren. Police say the calls have been coming from one number (800-466-6660) and callers are being told they should call back on another (855-402-8446). Police say you should not respond to these calls.
