Former Representative Bill Black says he is ‘’absolutely convinced’’ that Mike Marron has what it takes to become the next State Representative from Illinois’ 104th District. Black had seriously considered running for his old seat when current Representative Chad Hays announced recently that he will not seek re-election.
‘’I had to hit myself in the forehead and say ‘what were you thinking when you even expressed an interest – and it was a strong interest on my part to run again.’ It’s kind of like an old race horse – you can bedeck the barn, but when you hear that call to the post – whoa – let me in there! But with what my wife and I are faced with, it was just silly to really consider it. And I am so impressed with Mike Marron. He’s a new generation,’’ said Black. ‘’He’s not of our generation. I think he’s got new ideas, new vision, new approaches – and that’s what the Illinois General Assembly needs now more than ever,’’ said Black.
Black says he and Marron recently sat down to discuss the campaign, including the hardships it places on the candidate’s family.
‘’It wears on your family,’’ Black told Marron. ‘’You make sure Brandy is o.k. with this, and that you’re Dad’s going to pick up what you did on the farm. I think he’s got his head on straight – and he said ‘we can handle this.’ That’s that new generation, Bill, I’m amazed by them,’’ added Black.
When Black announced recently that he was considering running, many people went on social media and urged him to do so. But Black says with his wife facing some health issues, now is not the time to seek his old seat.
