The Champaign County Coroner has released the identity of the man killed in a single car crash along Interstate 74 near Danville on Wednesday. Coroner Duane Northrup says 28-year-old Mark S. Simpson of Urbana died at 7:50 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital.
The Coroner says preliminary autopsy results indicate Simpson died from blunt force injuries to the chest and abdomen.
Illinois State Police say Simpson was ejected from his vehicle when it crashed along the eastbound lanes shortly before 6:00 a.m. Wednesday. Simpson was traveling between the Bowman and Lynch Road exits when his car left the highway and hit a guardrail before going into a ditch. Troopers say Simpson was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation by Illinois State Police and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.
