No injuries were reported Saturday evening as flames raced through a Motel 6 building along Lynch Road on Danville’s east side. The flames destroyed the building which previously housed the motel offices, along with meeting rooms and a banquet hall. But owner Joe Patel, who was on the scene, told WDNL-WDAN and WRHK News Director Bill Pickett ‘’It was (a) closed building.’’ He added, ‘’Luckily nobody got hurt.’’ And Patel said the building has been closed for two years and maybe more.
And as Danville Firefighters worked successfully to keep the flames from spreading to the other building where Motel 6 rooms are located, Patel added, ‘’It is all newly-renovated Motel 6, and it is open.’’
Patel also told VermilionCountyFirst.com News on the scene, ‘’Accidents happen, but it is bad.’’
Danville Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building when they arrived. They were able to quickly determine that no one was inside the building which burned.
Some off-duty Danville Firefighters were called in to assist, and some area volunteer fire departments were placed on standby in case they were needed to respond to other calls in Danville.
It was not immediately known what triggered the fire at the building which years ago was a Ramada Inn. It had previously housed an off-track betting parlor in Danville.
