Hundreds of people in Danville are participating in a Global Leadership Summit. This is the third year that Danville’s Second Church of Christ has served as a host site for the event. Senior Minister Drew Mentzer says the participants are hearing from some top world leaders. ‘’These are all high-class leaders in different fields – business, some in the media, some in government, some in churches,’’ said Mentzer. ‘’And they all have great experience. They have got great information. It’s really been a learning experience for all of us, and we’ve enjoyed being able to host it here in Danville.’’
The program is being telecast live from the Willow Creek Campus near Chicago to over 500 locations worldwide today and Friday. This year some Danville High School students are attending the event – including about 35 members of the Danville High School football team. Coach Marcus Forrest (shown above) hopes his players learn some leadership skills. ‘’We want them to understand that as a football team member – you’re a leader – not only in the school but also in the community. There are always people watching, and because they’re watching you need to hold yourself accountable,’’ said Coach Forrest. ‘’Just as the last speaker was saying, there are things you need to look forward to, and start coming up with goals for yourself. Because if you’re better than the people around you are going to be better.’’
Also watching the World Leadership Summit are inmates at the Danville Correctional Center, according to Reverend Mentzer (shown here). ‘’It says to them that their life has value – that there’s something more to their life than what they are stuck in right now. And it’s been exciting. Last year it was really life-changing for some of them and we’re excited to be able to do it again this year,’’ added Reverend Mentzer.
Danville High School Principal Kim Norton says the Summit is giving students an opportunity to network and interact with many Danville and Vermilion County leaders.
