Danville School Board members are expecting to dip into reserve funds during the new school year. A proposed $73-million dollar budget is expected to be placed on public display at the board’s Wednesday evening meeting. Revenues are expected to only total 70.3 million dollars.
District 118 Superintendent Alicia Geddis says the proposed new tentative budget is ‘’extremely conservative’’. She adds it does not project any new revenue from the State. And although District 118 received some categorical funding from the State on Monday, Dr. Geddis notes those are funds owed the district from the last school year.
And Dr. Geddis says Danville District 118 will be expanding mental health services during the new school year. District 118 has an agreement with Crosspoints Human Services which Superintendent Geddis says they hope to expand later because of a growing need for the service.
Initially, the mental health services will be offered at Danville High School and the Kenneth D. Bailey Academy. But Dr. Geddis adds they hope to expand it to other schools in the near future.
‘’The providers have decreased and the need has increased,’’ said Superintendent Geddis as she discussed the program Monday afternoon. She says the program will be an expansion of services already provided by the local school district.
