Construction crews have started site preparation for a new small business plaza in Tilton. Developer Jim Wood says the land located along the west side of Illinois route one at 16th Street is going to become the home of a new Dollar Tree store. And Wood adds two other small businesses will be located there, but information on them is not being released yet since they have not yet signed their contract. He says the new Dollar Tree will likely not open until February of 2018.
[This photo shows businesses along Illinois route one just to the south of where the new business plaza is being built.] Wood notes the site where the work is underway will also have access from a new street that is planned to connect with Illinois route one. Work on that new street is expected to begin next year. It will have traffic signals where the road intersects route one.
Wood says improvements are also coming to route one in that area. He says plans are to have three lanes of traffic in each direction in that area of Tilton with a center turn lane. And Wood adds once the road work is done he expects other businesses will follow Dollar Tree’s decision to locate in that area south of Interstate 74.
