The new Director of the Danville City Election Commission says she expects to ‘’be a busy girl next year.’’ – That could be an understatement as Director Sandy Delhaye looks toward the 2018 elections.
Delhaye has been in her new position for a week and says she loves it. ‘’Well I’m excited. I’ve come in at a time where it’s going to allow me a learning curve before we get into the next election in March of 2018,’’ said Delhaye.
Delhaye now oversees the office that looks over elections inside Danville. The Vermilion County Clerk’s office handles election matters that are outside Danville but within the county.
And what was it that attracted Delhaye to the position? ‘’Well I’ve always been interested in the voting concept – how it works, where the precincts are. But, you know when you’re not exposed to that on a daily basis sometimes you don’t always understand it. So when this job came up I did a little research on the internet and talked to some people’’ said Delhaye during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News, ‘’and I thought – I think that’s something could do. I think I’d like that.’’
Although the 2018 Primary Election is still a long ways off, Delhaye says her office is getting ready. ‘’We’ve got a lot of things that we’re doing. We’re currently working on some packets for the candidates that will be going out after Labor Day. So we have packets that we put together – assembled all the information – maps, walking lists – that kind of thing that makes it as easy as possible for the candidates to get out there and get their ideas out,’’ added Delhaye.
And Delhaye encourages everyone to vote. She also suggests you check your voter registration and make any necessary changes early – instead of waiting until the last minute before the election.
